Hello Riley
Hello Riley is a small band of three, with a mighty sound. The band consists of two country girls, Peta Edmonds, Carlie Dyer, along with Auckland city dweller, Catherine Ellis. Together they’ve seemed to have reached a pivotal sound; a sound could be described as a warm-house fire, with all those down-to-earth qualities that you’d expect from a group of down to earth girls.
They met upon awkward circumstances as neighbours in a small part of East Auckland. And in their first meet and greet, Peta and Carlie were quite sure Cath’s family were vampires or something.
Rather than writing about love, hate or heartbreak, Edmond’s song writing, accompanied by the distinctive musical creativity from Dyer and Ellis, deals with everyday subject matter. Something that everyone could relate to in some way or another.
They’ve recently won a regional song-writing competition, and play regularly when they have the time aside from working and university study.
What sort of album influences Hello Riley?
Florence & The Machine - Lungs
Lungs makes us happy, want to dance and sing aloud in the weirdest places like the toilet. Cosmic Love is insanely addictive
and is constantly on repeat whereas Girl With One Eye makes us want to punch a hole in the wall - it's that intense. This album
has encouraged us to be more adventurous with our vocals and instruments - to take bigger risks instead of being comfortable with one sound.
