Meet our t-shirt competition winners!
Here's a bit of info on the community-ranked winners of our t-shirt competition:
1. Bonnie Wroe

What inspired you to enter the Bad Buzz T-shirt Competition?
I am a huge fan of the Mint Chicks, I have followed their music and artwork for years so thought it would be an amazing opportunity to have a painting of mine on their shirts!
How did your theme/idea for the t-shirt come about?
I paint and draw a lot of people with animal heads or features of animals, because I think that animals can portray very human emotions. I feel like my concepts are quite alternative and that they sort of suit some of the themes in their music videos. I also once saw one of the guys wearing a tiger hat at a concert in wellington so thought that a tiger head would be quite fitting.
Can you tell us about two artist that have inspired you and why?
I always find it hard to choose favourite artists, I find so many new ones every day with different styles that it's hard to decide which I like the most. But one artist that has inspired me for years is Mark Ryden. He paints beautiful surreal characters in dreamlike settings.

What are you future plans - design? art? fashion? other?
I am in my second year of a fine arts degree and am loving it. At this stage I'm not really thinking about my future, I am only nineteen so am busy focusing on all my assignments and trying to develop my style. I think it would be interesting to possibly do a fashion degree after fine arts, and start to sell my work and create a name for myself!
Favourite Mint Chicks song?
My favourite Mint Chicks song is always changing, at the moment its 100 Minutes Of Silence. It's a really good song to listen to while drawing - it zones me out.
2. Ryan Romanes

What inspired you to enter the Bad Buzz T-shirt Competition?
I've always been a fan of the Mint Chicks and to see the competition got me quite excited! I saw it as an opportunity to showcase my design and at the same time try to get my foot-in-the-door of this industry.
How did your theme/idea for the t-shirt come about?
I was always fond of the Mint Chicks artwork but when designing the t-shirt i didn't want to copy or try and recreate what they have already done, instead I listened through the Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No! album and sketched what came into my mind. I choose this sketch book style because I thought it reflected the Mint Chicks persona, after I few concepts and variations I felt this one was perfecto!

Can you tell us about two artist that have inspired you and why?
ummm two artists who have in inspired me would have to be Kate Moross & Andy Miller. Both young artists who have accomplished so much in their time.
What are your future plans - design? art? fashion? other?
After studying I want to travel and then hopefully freelance as a designer/illustrator, but who knows!?
Favourite Mint Chicks song?
mmmmm Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No!
3. Grant Priest

What inspired you to enter the Bad Buzz T-shirt Competition?
The opportunity to design a T-shirt for my favourite band was one i couldn't miss, plus the kind of exposure my work got just from entering the competition made it all worth while.
How did your theme/idea for the t-shirt come about?
After a few days of struggling to come up with a unique concept i decided to just start experimenting. With Shes Back On Crack blaring i made something i felt was fresh and screamed The Mint Chicks. Its loud, its crazy and just a little bipolar.
Can you tell us about two artist that have inspired you and why?
Stefan Sagmeister would have to be my biggest inspiration, he puts so much of himself into his work he blurs the line between designer and artist. His goal of touching someone's heart with a piece of design is one i feel all designers should aspire to.
My tutors at Media Design School last year were O for awesome, specially Penny "p-dog" Dombroski whose always full of helpful advice and voted a million times for my Tshirt!

What are your future plans - design? art? fashion? other?
This year i'm gonna start designing for bands. I'd love to do gig posters, album covers, websites, logos, T-shirts, anything! So if you're in the music biz and you need a designer give me a bell! Also keen to start screen printing some of my own T-shirts and posters and generally just keep myself as busy as possible. www.grantpriest.co.nz <-- check it out!
Favourite Mint Chicks song?
She's Back On Crack, if any song makes me feel like getting shit done its this one.
