Meet our video competition winners!

Here's a bit of info on the community-ranked winners of our video competition:

1. NZ Music Videos

What inspired you to enter the Bad Buzz Video Competition?
A friend had shown me the website and I happened to notice there was a couple of cool competitions on at the time.
I'm terrible at drawing so that counted me out of the T Shirt competition. The only option for me was to make a music video!

How did your theme/idea for Bad Buzz come about?
When coming up with ideas/concepts for music videos I usually listen to the track over and over until I get enough strange themes and pictures
popping into my imagination. So we just played the track over and threw around different ideas that we felt matched the pace and feel of each part
of the music.

Please introduce your lovely team who helped you make the video (from left to right)

  • Myself, Daniel Fowler - Ideas/Cameras/Edit
  • Johnny - Apart from playing spag-loving homeless characters in the weekends, he is also a talented musician, studying toward a degree in pop music and playing in several bands!
  • Sarah - A talented singer, actress and fashion expert! Sarah seems to always hear about the latest bands before anyone else.
  • Guy - An energetic man who loves to do bombs and sweet jumps off new things. He is also a talented and multi skilled musician!

Can you tell us about two films that have inspired you and why?
The film "
Brick" - Amazing dialogue, superb acting and a great script, also really well produced for a relatively small budget.
It shows that you don't need all the "2012" special effects to produce something awesome - just a well written script, simple setting and some better than average acting.

(It's not really a film...but) "We can be Heroes" - Another mocumentary masterpiece by Chris Lilley, the genius behind "Summer Heights High". Chris Lilley is an amazing actor that plays five absolutely hilarious characters in this TV series. From an Asian school student to a House wife obsessed with porcelain dolphins he really nails it so well!

Any plans to make more music videos?
Absolutely, I love making Music Videos and other silly skits.
Keep an eye on my youtube channel for new music videos or you can also check out some of the previous ones I have made.

2. Deb Po

What inspired you to enter the Bad Buzz Video Competition?
We're all fans of The Mint Chicks and thought it would be an awesome oppertunity to  show our support, have a bit of fun and hopefully be responsible for their official video clip.

How did your theme/idea for Bad Buzz come about?
A few of us got together and brainstormed a few ideas. The song seemed to lead us all in the same direction in terms of ideas, so we finalised our concept pretty fast.

Please introduce your lovely team who helped you make the video:
All our crew graduated from South Seas Film & Television school last year.

  • Mohit Sharma (Director) - Prompted the team to get together - that's him at the end running into the water at 7am on a Saturday morning.
  • Nick Takashima (Camera) - Willingly came aboard and provided valuable expertise and input, and managed to get some stunning shot on what was really just a slightly fancy handycam.
  • Gideon Smit (Editor) - Came aboard quite late, and managed to edit our final version while still completing the 48hr competition. Couldn't have done it without him.
  • Debbie Pope (1st AD) - Organised the crew and pushed everyone through the night until we staggared to Takapuna Beach the next morning.
  • Sarah Saw (Actor) - Our dedicated actress who helped brainstorm the idea, and played the part of our ethnic, corner-working nun with just the right amount of angst.
  • Special Thanks to: Lauren Black, Angela Grey and Loren Kennedy

Can you tell us about two films that have inspired you and why?
The song really brought to mind scenes from '
Thirteen' and the music video to Cinnamon Chasers - Luv Deluxe

Any plans to make more music videos?
We will probably try to make more in our spare time.

3. Luke Bremner

What inspired you to enter the Bad Buzz Video Competition?
It was a good track to put pictures to.

How did your theme/idea for Bad Buzz come about?
I felt it was better to tell a story or create interest in the viewer of the music video rather than just film exactly what the song lyrics were saying. You can create interest and  intrigue in the viewer as to what they are seeing, even if the music does nothing for them they want to know what happens in the video/ how it will end.

Please introduce your lovely team who helped you make the video:

Dane White (Actor) , Luke Bremner (Camera), Tim Notman (Actor), Kirk Bremner (Actor)

Can you tell us about two films that have inspired you and why?
30 Seconds To Mars/ Yesterday, Coldplay/ The Scientist, (Interesting videos that tell a story on there own, with or without the music. So much intrigue as to what is happening and why it's happening)

Any plans to make more music videos?
I have more ideas that I will be putting to music, it's just a matter of finding the right band with the same sort of vision.
