Meet our t designer, Laura
What inspired you to enter the NZ Indie Mix Tape T-shirt Competition?
Design and music go hand in hand, i think it's important to feel and see some form of visual when you listen to music as it adds a different dimension to the experience.
How did your theme/idea for the t-shirt come about?
I really like spacey dreamy images, and using layers in design engages you to look at it a little longer than a singular flat image. I wanted a mysterious, deep and gloomy aesthetic, yet ethereal at the same time. This design seemed fitting as the 12 pinnacles represent the 12 featured emerging kiwi artists.

Can you tell us about an artist that has inspired you and why?
An artist i adore at the moment is Sarah Larnach, an illustrator originally from NZ. Her fantasy-like paintings of wolves and galaxies just grab me, and she has a strong collaborative relationship with Ladyhawke. I love how these two together have such a strong emphasis on translating the visual representation in Ladyhawke's music. Larnach works with the idea of a conscious synergy, that when you inspect this album you will find that everything was hand-done, even the record company logos were repainted. This in turn adds a 'physical weight' to the music, so that the listener can hold something while they listen.

What are you future plans - design? art? fashion? other?
I'm currently in my 4th year studying graphic design. Throughout my degree i've found myself integrating music into most of my projects, and my final 'major' project is purely focused on this aspect. In the future, i would love to be able to combine these two passions of mine; whether this be in the design or music industry. At some stage i would love to have a behind-the-scenes role in the music industry (in promotion, music event management, and one day my own label.)
Favourite artist on the NZ Indie Mix Tape?
Love Psyrok - the moodiness and beautiful use of strings. Plus he digs Massive Attack's 'Protection' (one of my favs)
Thanks Laura and all the other artists who entered for joining in!
