Psyrok

Psyrok is Si White, a cross-genre electronica producer and songwriter currently based in Wellington. He has performed and received airplay internationally and is currently working on a new album and also co-hosts the SideStream show on Massey University's Muse Radio every Sunday 12-3pm.

Psyrok most recently released the collaborative EP 'Akinosuke' featuring Swedish vocalist Jenny Larsson (aka Li'l Sister Jen) on his own micro-label Psylince Records. The two have never met and until recently had never even spoken, they were introduced during an interview on Radio New Zealand's 'Music 101' show. The Akinosuke EP was created entirely over the internet with Psyrok writing and producing the music and Jenny contributing vocals and some lyrics. 'Akinosuke' has been receiving an excellent response both in NZ and overseas with good reviews and airplay. 'Akinosuke' is available for free download from www.psyrok.com. â€¨â€¨

Psyrok's first album 'Volume 1' was released in 2007 on his own micro-label 'Psylince Records' and is available worldwide on all good download sites such as Amplifier, iTunes and Amazon, a physical release is also available from cdbaby.com. A remix of 'Pantaenus Glee' by Christchurch's Sick Cycle was included on the recent promo CD 'Cosmic Roadtrip Vol 2' distributed through Cosmic Corner stores.

What sort of album influences Psyrok?

Massive Attack's 'Protection'
This is definitely one of the key albums that led me to the style I'm producing today. I had been into mostly rock but also some hip-hop before I heard this album back in the 90s. I was instantly hooked on this new style that had the beats and sampling elements of hip-hop but with so much more emotion and depth to it. It really opened my mind to the fact that music didn't have to fall into these neat little boxes created by the industry, and that a lot of the time the best music does not.
