Rackets
Forming from the ashes of punk favourites The Randoms by Oscar Davies Kay and Vince Nairn and stealing a member from God Bows To Math (Jeremy Amos), Rackets tore into the Auckland underground scene with a fevered vengeance, instruments on the verge of collapse and a batch of high powered punk rock songs all clocking in under 2 minutes.
Youthful exuberance and sweat flies while Rackets tear across the stage, swapping instruments and blasting their unique blend of indie brutality. Fitting somewhere between the intensity of Die!Die!Die! with the quirky melodies of The Chills, Rackets continue to spread their name up and down the country over and again with the desire to tour, and have new adventures to tell the kids back home.
With 2 bFM # 1 Singles (Bedsores, 42 and a Half), tour supports with HLAH and stand out performances at bFM's Summer Series and b Street... (Not to mention their renegade performances at Campus A Low Hum), Rackets are the name upon lips of the humans in the street looking to find a party. In their short lifetime they have already played 50 live shows including an infamous 4:20 show outside of Wellington's Cosmic Corner and toured the length of New Zealand twice.
Now May 17th see's the band releasing two debut albums simultaneously? Two albums? Yes two albums. 'High Places' and 'Friends' will be released on Banished From The Universe records and will be available in all record stores from May 17th. The band wrote 40 new songs in as many days and cut and culled until they had two mini albums of ten songs each ready to be mixed up , mastered and (un)perfected by engineer wizard Bob Frisbee, expect a debaucherous collection of ditties about the joys of life, love and the universe.
Don't miss this exciting and fresh new band with enough sweat, blood and punk to tear you limb from limb with the barest and rawest songs played with bass, drum and guitars. Rackets are here.
What sort of album influences Rackets?
Pixies - Surfer Rosa
All of us in the band agree 'Surfer Rosa' has had a major influence in our approach to song writing. alot of dynamic changes in a short amount of time. we like to scream like women in our songs and thats because of Surfer Rosa probably.
